No Regrets Basketball Tournament, ANBT teams make the cut and more

Senior boys go to Vancouver

The senior boys Rainmakers played four games in Kitsilano and Vancouver last week, going 1-3 in the process.

Playing first against third-ranked Kitsilano, the Rainmakers fell 81-66.

The boys then took to Vancouver for the No Regrets tournament. CHSS won its first game, 69-39 against Collingwood Secondary School. Ben Rabel scored 18 points and was named player of the game.

The Rainmakers lost the next game, 76-57 to Handsworth Secondary. Quinn Leighton drained 13 points.

In the final game, Charles Hays lost 80-62 to Kitsilano.

All Native teams set

Now that the qualifying tournament is over, the teams that will be in February’s All Native Basketball Tournament are set:

Women’s division: Bella Bella, Hazelton, Metlakatla BC, New Aiyansh, Vancouver, Rain, Kitamaat, Greenville, Massett, Bella Coola, Kamloops, Gitwinksihlkw, Hesquiaht and Klemtu. Teams on standby include Port Simpson, Kincolith and Kitkatla.

Senior Men’s division: Skidegate, Kitkatla, Port Simpson, Massett, Vancouver, Bella Bella, Prince Rupert, Kincolith, Hazelton, New Aiyansh, Ahousaht, Gitwinksihlkw, Bella Coola and Greenville. Standby teams are Klemtu and Gitanyow.

Intermediate division: Port Simpson, Bella Bella, Metlakatla AK, Kitkatla, Prince Rupert, Massett, Hartley Bay, Kincolith, Hazelton, Vancouver, Ahousaht and Bella Coola. Teams on standby are Skidegate, Greenville and New Aiyansh.

Masters division: Hydaburg, Massett, Bella Bella, Port Simpson, Greenville, Prince Rupert, Kitamaat, New Aiyansh, Kitkatla, Kincolith and Gitwinksihlkw. Teams on standby include Skidegate, Bella Coola and Hazelton.

The tournament is Feb. 12 to 18 in Prince Rupert.

Alumni tournament this weekend

The annual Rainmakers Alumni Tournament takes place at Charles Hays Secondary School on Friday and Saturday.

There will be nine games played over the two days. The championship game will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
