Skeena River Relay packed

The ever-popular Skeena River Relay is officially full.

The race — which is a 142-kilometre five-to-10 person relay takes place on June 3 and is always quick to fill up its 30 teams.

Freestyle going to be loaded

Loaded Sports is hosting its annual Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Event on April 1 at Shames Mountain.

It is a free event for all ages, with various age and gender-specific categories.

Helmets will be mandatory and contestants will need to sign a waiver. If the contestant is under 19, a parent will have to sign as well.

Registration will take place at the lodge from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m on April 1, and the contest begins at 1 p.m.

“It’s sure to be a great event and there’s bound to be a great turnout,” said Steve Newman of Loaded Sports.

Lou Lemire camp gives back

Lou Lemire will be hosting his 10th annual Summer Hockey Skills Camp in Prince Rupert this summer.

Ten years ago, Lemire made the decision, along with Prince Rupert Minor Hockey Association directors, to start the hockey camp in a new location far from his Penticton home, but it’s been worth it.

“The incredible support I have received makes me super proud to be able to make this summer my tenth annual,” Lemire said, adding he thanks PRMHA, parents volunteers, staff at the recreation complex, the Rampage and local businesses for their support.

As a token of Lemire’s appreciation for 10 strong years in Prince Rupert, he is giving back by donating $500 to PRMHA, and will contribute another $500 if 50 or more players register for the camp this summer. That’s $1,000 going back into minor hockey.

“That’s a very good reason to come out and support the camp as all the kids will benefit,” Lemire said.
