Similkameen minor sports received a $9,200 grant late last summer from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan for a batting cage at Kobau Park.
Similkameen minor sports identified a need for the cage after seeing local kids travelling all the way to Penticton to use the facilities there.
The SMSA were very pleased to discover that their application for the grant was accepted by the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan. The local Kobau Koyotes fastball team along with parents and relatives, hauled two loads of gravel with shovels and wheelbarrows into the cage to use as a base.
The cage will be covered in mesh in the spring. It should be an asset to local fastball and baseball teams in helping them to perfect their batting skills without the need to travel out of town.
