Pinnacles under-21 soccer, men's soccer, golf and BCHL FortisBC energy winner highlighted

Pinnacles under-21 men’s win

Wyatt Sedden Johnstone scored the only goal the Penticton Pinnacles under-21 men’s team needed against Kelowna United FC on Sunday. The Pinnacles earned a 1-0 win in Reserve Division action of the Pacific Coast Soccer League. The Pinnacles are fourth in the division with a 4-2-4 record. Their next game is July 7 at King’s Park at 2 p.m. against TSS Academy. In women’s action, the Pinnacles lost 1-0 to West Vancouver FC on a goal by Julia Conzon. Their next match is Wednesday at King’s Park at 7:30 p.m. The PCSL is selecting a men’s all-star team that will receive recognition from the league and represent the PCSL in exhibition games determined by board of directors. Former South Okanagan Youth Soccer Association executive director and Pinnacles men’s under-21 coach Chris Bennett will be the coach. Nomination information can be found at www.pcsl.org.

Oliver clobbers Double D Tours

Oliver drubbed an undermanned Double D Tours squad 14-0 in Penticton men’s soccer action. Tyler Machial scored five goals, while, Tim Grimard had four, Brandon Greener and Leigh Johnson, two, and Sean Peterson with one. The Sunrunners downed Beercelona 5-2.Summerland Gerard’s Gunners took advantage of a undermanned Kondola’s to secure a 3-0 win. Tristan Knoll, Josh Thornton and Mike Mayer scored for Summerland. On July 4, the Sunrunner’s visit Oliver for a 7 p.m. start while Double D Tours takes on Summerland and Beercelona takes on Kondola’s at Kings Park.

Penticton golf

Penticton Golf and Country club senior men’s held its four-man low net event June 26 with the team of Albert Chenier, Gord Bogan, Ron Gladish and John Perry winning. They earned a score of 113 (-27). In second was Paul Heatlie,

Tom McLaren, Jim Hewett and Reg Gordon at 116 (-24).

The club’s senior ladies had its low gross/low net-integrated scoring event June 25. Viv Mohoruk and M.L. Lancaster winning with 89. The low net winner was Trish Desbrisay with a 69. Linda Avison and Jackie Perry shot 70, while Jean Stalmans and Pat Fleming had 72.

BCHL FortisBC Energy winners

Prince George Spruce Kings defenceman Trevor Esau and West Kelowna Warriors forward Max French are the first winners of the BCHL FortisBC Energy Player of the Year awards. Esau earned 11 FortisBC Energy Player of the Game nods through 51 games. French, the Warriors captain, earned four FortisBC Energy Player of the Game nods in 10 playoff games as his team advanced to the Interior Conference finals. The BCHL and FortisBC salute these players for their efforts on the ice this season and congratulate them on their respective honours.
