Gymnaestrada 2011
FitKidz Gymnastics in Penticton is hosting the annual 2011 B.C. Gymnaestrada May 28 to 29 at the Adidas Sportsplex. There will be 400 athletes from 20 clubs participating in a celebration of the sport.
“We’re pretty much ready to tumble,” said FitKidz head coach Annette Card.
Movies are the theme for this year’s event and gymnasts will participate in six workshops. Card said that FitKidz has received strong support from the community to help with their fundraising event. The workshops begin both days at 9 a.m. and the performances are at 2:10 until 3 p.m.
“It’s exciting for me because kids who are going, get experience and it’s something to work towards,” she said.
FitKidz has 30 members participating in the Gymnaestrada. FitKidz also has summer camps taking place, which families can sign up for by contacting the office.
BCHL approves Quesnel move
The BCHL board of governors voted to approve the proposed sale and relocation of the Quesnel Millionaires subject to formal approval from BC Hockey, which is holding a special conference call to make a decision. Chiefs Development Group, who owned the Langley Chiefs, has purchased the franchise to move it to Chilliwack.
“I’m very happy to have the great support of the BCHL board of governors and that they’d vote unanimously to bring Chilliwack back into our league,” said board chairman Darcy Rota. “There are still some points that need to be cleared up before it’s official but we’re sure that will happen very soon.”
Chilliwack will play in the Interior Conference in the 2011-12 season.
