Eight players from last year’s provincial champion team are committed to NCAA and CIS.
Gorge prep for B.C.s, Vic West win Doug Day
Since winning the Terry Price Cup on March 13, Gorge FC have been looking for ways to keep busy until the preliminary round of senior women’s soccer provincials.
To avoid a one-month layoff, Gorge arranged an internal exhibition match against the Gorge U15 boys, and will travel to visit the UBC Thunderbirds on April 2.
Coach Brent Garraway said by paying their own way to Vancouver for this weekend’s exhibition match, it shows the desire of his team to perform at provincials.
“It makes it tough as it takes a large amount of cash from each players’ pocket in order to go, but we need to get the really competitive games in before the beginning of provincials.”
The provincial schedule begins with the preliminary round the weekend of Saturday, April 9. Island premier women’s teams Vic West, Nanaimo, Castaways and Prospect Lake are also in the provincial A cup.
On Sunday Div. 1 Vic West defeated Gordon Head 6-1 to win the Doug Day Cup.
Vic West joins Div. 1 women’s teams Gordon Head Blue, Nanaimo and Gordon Head’s Div. 2 team as Island representatives in the provincial B cup soccer championships.
Gorge FC’s classics team will compete in the women’s over-35 provincials.
