For the third consecutive year, Abbotsford track and field star Natasha Miller has been named the outstanding female athlete at the NAIA national indoor championships.At the national meet in Ohio, Miller, a Mennonite Educational Institute grad who attends Biola University in Los Angeles, won the pentathlon with a record-setting score of 4,032 points. She finished first in four of the five pentathlon events, including the high jump, long jump, 60m hurdles and 800m run.Miller also won the high jump event for the second straight year, clearing 1.72m, and ran the third leg of Biola’s fifth-place women’s distance medley relay.”I believe God gives us all a gift, and my gift has been track,” Miller said. “I keep working hard to improve each and every day.”DOERKSEN EARNS ALL-STAR NODFor the second time in the last three years, Abbotsford basketball star Jacob Doerksen has been named a CIS first team All-Canadian.Doerksen, a fifth-year forward with the Trinity Western Spartans, finished the regular season third in the conference with 21.6 points per game, second in field goal percentage at 62.1 and eighth in rebounds with 7.8 per game.SCHMIDT, CANADA WIN IN CYPRUSAbbotsford’s Sophie Schmidt helped the Canadian senior women’s soccer team win the Cyprus Women’s Cup.Emily Zurrer’s goal in the first period of extra time lifted Canada to a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands on Wednesday to clinch the title. Schmidt started in the midfield for Canada.
