Rupert senior girls win silver
A team made up of girls from Prince Rupert and Vanderhoof, or Prince Hoof as they called themselves, won a silver medal at the Prince George Invitational Girls 7s Tournament.
Robyn Grant, Hannah Scherr, Kennedy Weir and Jordan Weir were the Rupert representatives. The team won four of the five games, losing only the championship game.
They beat Duchess Park 42-7, then shut out College Heights in back-to-back games 30-0 and 2-0. In the semi-final, the girls beat Lake City 37-0 but ultimately fell to Houston 20-5.
Maggie Lazar-Emerson, a Rupert junior rugby player, played with the Nechako Valley junior team and came on as an injury reserve in the senior final.
Around 100 girls participated in the weekend, made up of seven different teams.
Whitehorse to host Coy Cup
The season is still young, but if the Rupert Rampage plan to battle for the Coy Cup, they will have to travel to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.
The Whitehorse Huskies Senior AA team will be the hosts for the championship, which will be held March 21-25, 2017 at the Takhini Arena.
BC Hockey announced the decision last Wednesday.
Whitehorse beat out Fort St. John, among other teams, for the opportunity. The Fort St. John Flyers have won the Coy Cup two years in a row.
PRMHA Rep games start up
The minor hockey season schedule is set to begin for Prince Rupert’s rep teams this week. The Peewee All-West Glass team will kick of the year with a home game against Fraser Lake on Oct. 15 at 10 a.m.
The Bantam Seawolves will play two games on the weekend, one in Vanderhoof on Saturday and another in Houston on Sunday. They will be home for a doubleheader on Oct. 22 against Kitimat and Terrace.
