Sports in brief: Yale hockey team rolls to four wins in Pitt Meadows

The Yale Secondary hockey academy’s under-16 boys team went undefeated at a Canadian Sport School Hockey League showcase tourney.

The Yale Secondary hockey academy’s under-16 boys team went undefeated at a Canadian Sport School Hockey League showcase tourney in Pitt Meadows on the weekend.

The Lions won a trio of games vs. the Edge, Compete and Banff hockey academies on Saturday, and wrapped up the event with a 5-0 victory over Burnaby Winter Club on Sunday. Along the way, both of Yale’s goalies – Liam McCloskey and Brandon Kruger – registered shutouts.

“Our kids executed our game plan perfectly,” coach Brad Bowen said. “We were physical, our tempo was high, and we had contributions from everyone on our team.”

LOKOMBO, HAWKS STORM PAST SAINTS

Nelson Lokombo led the W.J. Mouat junior football team to a 34-0 win over the Langley Saints last Thursday.

Lokombo carried the ball 17 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns, behind a terrific performance of the offensive line, comprised of Tim Grzechnik, Sean Roufosse, Devon Cudmore, Reuben Reardon and Gary Ghagg. Cameron Tomm also had a strong outing, excelling on offence and defence.

BASKETBALL REFS WANTED

With basketball season starting in just a few weeks, the Fraser Valley Basketball Officials Association (FVBOA) is searching for new officials to join them this season.
