Hockey
A rep hockey team for Peewee girls has now been established for the northwest. Called the Northwest Eagles, the team played in Prince George Jan. 13-14 against Abbotsford, Mackenzie, Prince George, Grand Prairie, and Northeast. The regional eagles didn’t win any games, but coach Richard Kriegal said he felt they played competitively considering it was their first time on the ice together. The team has players from Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert, Smithers, Hazelton, Fraser Lake and Vanderhoof.

The Terrace River Kings wrapped up the CIHL regular season with an 5-8 loss last Saturday in Prince Rupert. Ben Reinbolt tied for regular season top-scorer with Quesnel’s Alessio Tomassetti, who both had 30 points. Reinbolt scored 18 goals, 12 assists in the season, and Tomassetti 13 goals and 17 assists. Patti Leal stood in second for top-goalie just behind Prince Rupert’s Dave Wood. The River Kings head to Quesnel for their first playoff game this weekend.
Basketball
The Kermode senior boys faced Pitt Meadows in two games here last weekend, losing the first 55-85 but winning the second 66-47.

Nearly a dozen teams from the Nass Valley are gearing up for the All Native Basketball tournament in Prince Rupert Feb. 12-18. New Aiyansh, Gitwinksihlkw, Greenville and Kincolith have teams in various divisions. Stay tuned for a story closer to the date.
Curling
Team Bulleid, with Lisa Bulleid, Joan Kucharyshen, Kathie Simpson and Nancy Ross, won the women’s regional playdowns last Saturday. Only two Terrace teams competed, and Bulleid tied 6-6 with Team Wyatt in the eighth end of the first game. But Bulleid scooped managed to scoop the win 9-6 in the ninth, and won the second game 13-2. They will head to provincials in Enderby Feb. 20.
Volleyball
U18 Rage girls earned second place in the Power League Tournament in Prince George last weekend. The tournament had 12 women’s teams from the area, including one of university and college alumni players, and the girls lost their first three games against Happy Hour (Smithers), Prince George U18 Red, and the Ninjas. But the girls battled their way back by beating Smithers Cheers and Prince George U18 Black in semi-finals, and losing to Happy Hour (Smithers) in the finals to take second. The girls play Super Series next in Langley Feb. 17-18.
