BC Cup times two

Salmon Arm will be a host extraordinaire in the next month. The U18 Female BC Cup will take place April 27 to May 1 at the Sunwave Centre. There will be 120 participants from all over B.C. Soon after will be the U17 Male BC Cup from May 12 to 15 with roughly the same number of participants.

Golds set for provincials

The Salmon Arm Secondary Senior Golds soccer team is gearing up for the high school provincials, to be held in two weeks.

It’s been a bit of a wait, given that the Boys Triple A Soccer Championships in Burnaby were cancelled in November due to unusually heavy snowfalls in the balmy Lower Mainland.

The team, which is essentially the same as the Shuswap Youth Soccer U18 select team, started off the season with a tournament two weekends ago in Penticton, where they won all four games they played. With just three teams in their age category, Salmon Arm handily defeated a weaker Penticton team twice, as well as twice beating the Kootenay team which created more of a contest. Last weekend Salmon Arm defeated the Vernon U18 selects 6-0 and, next weekend, the team takes on Kamloops. Coach Brad Ross says the team is continuing to develop where it left off from last year. The provincials are scheduled for May 4, 5 and 6 in Burnaby.

Trail types wanted

Calling all trail volunteers, planners and groups. The Shuswap Trail Alliance is setting up the 2011 volunteer trail work schedule, and invites everyone already involved or interested in looking after trails to gather for a short planning session over coffee and muffins at the Canoe Beach picnic shelter in Salmon Arm. Meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 16 to discuss trail work priorities and do some scheduling. Bring your walking shoes and work gloves for a little post-meeting twig-toss walk on the Park Hill trails.
