The Nelson Drillers Spring Classic Hockey Tournament is set to go this weekend at both the Civic Arena and the Nelson and District Community Complex.
Six men’s squads and four women’s squads from Summerland, Midway, Grand Forks, Creston and Nelson will battle it out all weekend long.
Action begins on Friday at 5:15 p.m. and continues all weekend. There is no admission charge
Each team is guaranteed three games with the finals taking place on Sunday at the NDCC. The final for women is set to go at 12:30 p.m. while the men’s final is at 1:45 p.m.
“It’s good non-contact hockey for both men and women,” said Theresa Montpellier, who is organizing the event along with Dan Cassie.
“It’s just some good, old-time hockey.”
The concession and a beer garden will be open for spectators.
On Saturday night, there will be a special “Disco-themed” dance taking place at the Nelson Curling Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. and DJ Rhapsody starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. The dance is open to the public as well as participants in the tournament.
“The dance is disco-themed so dress up if you are interested,” said Montpellier.
So pull out your one piece suits, your big afro wigs and get your groove on.
Organizers of the event want to thank the Nelson Leafs for supporting the tournament.
