With spring beckoning the Terrace community outdoors, Centennial Christian School is organizing their annual spring run/walk event for April 30.
“You can be competitive if you want, but that is definitely is not a requirement,” said organizer Ella Ringma. “It’s meant to be fun, to get out, exercise, enjoy the day, and enjoy the spring.”
The Centennial Spring Classic starts at 10 a.m. with a 1K race for children ages ten and under at the Centennial Christian School. Crowds of people are there cheering on the children, and just milling around and visiting, Ringma said.
Then at 10:30 a.m., the 5K race starts, and everyone crowds into the parking lot, they shoot off the horn and the crowds take off, following a loop around the horseshoe and back through the Howe Creek trail. It includes everyone from competitive runners to moms with strollers and seniors with walkers,
“It’s a nice mix. We have some people that run very fast — last year our first contestant crossed in under 19 minutes — and then we have people who just walk,” Ringma said.
After the race, there is fruit and cookies and then a prize draw and awards for the best costumes, fastest runners and average time (the runner whose time falls right in the middle).
This year they are fundraising for Terrace Sponsors Syrian Refugee Families. Registration is at All Seasons Source for Sports or Centennial Christian School.
“”It’s a lot of fun and the last two years we have had good weather… we’re hoping for the same, but we will go rain or shine,” Ringma said.
