Squash (of the court sport variety) is on the menu this weekend in Langley, to help a family touched by cancer.
Jacques DuToit and his family have been involved in the Fraser Valley squash community for more than 15 years.
Recently, Jacques’s wife has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
The squash community is looking to help the family out by raising funds through participation in a squash marathon at the Newlands Golf & Country Club’s fitness centre.
There is a call out for donations as a sponsorship to players who will participate in a continuous game of squash for 24 hours.
All of the proceeds raised will go to Jacques and his family in their time of need.
The squash marathon will take place this Saturday, Dec 17, and Sunday, Dec 18.
“Please spread the word to the squash community, friends, and family who may wish to offer their support,” the event’s GoFundMe page says. “We would like to present the proceeds of this fundraiser to Jacques at the end of the squash marathon event.”
Those wishing to play in the squash marathon can contact Dave Leman (lemandav@shaw.ca) for more information.
A donation of $50 will also include an entry into the squash marathon’s door prize. Donations of $100 will include three door prize entries, and any donation over $200 will include seven door prize entries.
There will be a couple of featured door prizes – the Mowat family has donated a one-hour helicopter tour, and any wine and spirits that have been donated will be drawn as a door prize.
Jack Webber has donated two Club 500 tickets to the Canucks game March 28 versus the Anaheim Ducks, valued around $500.
A silent auction will also take place for these tickets – email Clint Hall (theoldalfer@hotmail.com) with your bid.
The bid will end at midnight, Saturday Dec 17 when the squash marathon finishes.
