The senior B Nanaimo Timbermen kept pace at the top of the standings with two more wins.
The West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association club won twice on the road this past weekend, beating the Valley Rebels 7-3 on Friday in Abbotsford and then handling the Royal City Capitals 14-8 on Saturday in New Westminster.
In Friday’s low-scoring affair, goaltender Mike Berti made 31 saves as his team outshot the opposition 64-34. Jonny Gill had four goals for Nanaimo, Devon Casey and Cody Boon also tallied and Steve Higgs dished three assists
The next day, Jon Diplock had five goals and three assists, Andrew Miller had a hat trick and two assists, Ryan Hanna scored twice and Higgs had a goal and four helpers. Other scorers were Drew Miles, Ryan Dietterle and Josh Fagan. Berti made 40 saves.
The senior B Timbermen have also been busy off the floor, bolstering their lineup prior to the Canada Day trade deadline. Graham Palmer, former captain of the senior A Nanaimo Timbermen, will join the senior B squad, as will Adam Brown, a left-handed forward from Victoria.
GAME ON … Nanaimo visits the Tri-City Bandits on Sunday (July 5).
