It took the Silver Stars just five minutes to put away Kal Tire in Okanagan Men’s 50+ Soccer League action Thursday night at MacDonald Park.
The Stars improved to 6-0-1 by brushing back the Tiremen 3-1.
An own goal in the opening minutes saw defender Rich Zecchel beat Kal Tire keeper Terry Lowe with a scorching six-yard back pass of sorts.
Defender Grant Badgero then took down Paul McArdle inside the 18 and Mahmoud Abdel-Kader buried the penalty shot for a 2-0 lead in the fifth minute.
The Tiremen regrouped at the half and just missed on chances by Mark DeVolder, Ted Sheehan and Janne Huberts.
Roadrunner John Matejicka made it 3-0 on a partial breakaway with Zecchel getting a piece of the shot as it deflected past Lowe, early in the second half.
Defender Rob Parkin ran to the right touch line and sent in a hard cross which was nodded in past Stars’ keeper Dave Gould by striker Kevin Mitchell, with 18 minutes remaining.
Lowe punched a sure-goal over the bar and made a few other clutch stops to earn Burger King Man of the Match for Kal Tire (3-3-1). Defender Steve Coombs took the Prestige Hotel Man of the Match for the Stars.
