Stingers stop Black Panthers

The Hi Pro Sportswear Stingers defeated the Cloverdale Paint Black Panthers 13-7 in a Mosquito division baseball playoff game at Lakeview Park Tuesday.

The Stingers’ strong pitching held the Panthers to one or fewer runs in three of the six innings played.

Brandon Fisher struck out four over 1.2 innings for Hi Pro, Ryan Cox pitched one scoreless inning, striking out two. Kyle Wheeler tossed 1.3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out three batters. Closer Austin Seibel struck out two batters with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth.

Seibel went 2-for-2 at the dish with a double and scored twice. Connor Jones was 3-for-3 with a two-bagger, Brandon Fisher was 2-for-2 with a walk and scored twice while Hunter Johnstone was 2-for-2 with a walk and scored three times.

The Black Panthers had strong pitching from Lucas McCool, who struck out one, and Evan Kashuba, who only allowed one run and struck out one throwing only 16 pitches.

Kashuba led the painters offensively, going 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Chayse Brumpton was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Ben Thompson drew four walks and scored twice while Reece Holmes hit the ball hard every time up and finished with a double and two RBIs. Luke Walsh also drove in a run for the Panthers.
