A stingy defence led the way as the Langley Thunder novice A1 lacrosse team struck gold.
The Thunder allowed less than three goals per game and the end result was a championship title over the weekend (June 2 to 4) for the nine and 10-year-olds from Langley at the John Witt Memorial Bellie Bowl at New Westminster’s Queen’s Park Arena.
In Sunday’s gold-medal game, the Thunder eked out a 2-1 victory over Ridge Meadows.
The game was a rematch of the tournament’s first game, which Langley also won 7-3.
The Thunder offence found its groove on Saturday reaching double digits in goals both games, prevailing 11-2 over Coquitlam and 10-4 against Nanaimo.
After finishing in first place in their pool, Langley defeated the host side No. 4 New Westminster 6-4 on Sunday morning.
