Much like the weather, Vernon BMX Club riders stormed Grand Forks last weekend for the final B.C. series qualifier.
Racing was cancelled Friday night when a strong windstorm blew two large trees onto the track. The debris was cleared in time for Sunday qualifiers to go ahead.
Competing in the largest group of the weekend, five-year-old Travis Hurren took fifth place. His big brother Travis, racing in the eight-year-old class, was fifth as well.
Another brother tandem, Cody and Noah Wessels, ranked third and fourth respectively in the 9 Intermediate class.
Faith Riddick secured silver in the 11 Girl division, and Jaydon Riddick placed fourth in the 13-year-old class.
Nathan Sewell, eight, racing in his first out-of-town event, captured third place. Brothers Cade, 11, and Korbin Davies, eight, finished first and second respectively in their age groups.
The father-son duo of Doug (men’s 41-45 Cruiser) and Nathan Martin (15 Expert) claimed third and second respectively in their groups. Nathan recovered from a bad crash in warmup to earn his result.
Jennifer Bitz struck silver in the women’s cruiser class, Jeremy Deschamps won his cruiser class, and added bronze in the 13 Boys division.
Roger Tepper uncovered silver in his division, Elijah Riley recorded bronze in the 6 Novice class, Travis Sargent took second in the 13 Novice group, and Cam Jones was second in the 13 Intermediate.
The Vernon BMX Club is hosting the B.C. Finals on Sunday, Aug. 26.
