From the pitch comes word all is right again between Nanaimo and Oceanside where soccer is concerned.
According to a press release from Oceanside Youth Soccer Society’s Ravi Mohabeer, “in the spring the long-standing partnership between the Oceanside Youth Soccer Society (OYSS) and the Harbour City Football Club (HCFC of Nanaimo) seemed in jeopardy. Today OYSS is pleased to announce that soccer in the mid-Island region is back together again, and better than ever.”
Putting children first, he said this past weekend, OYSS renewed its long-standing relationship with HCFC and it’s newly-elected board of directors. Together we join our new partners Gabriola and Mid Isle (Ladysmith) Youth Soccer on the pitch starting this fall and into the future.
“After many months of difficult discussions and changes in direction and leadership, it all came down to how to provide the best soccer experience for mid-Island youth.”
“Working together we are stronger and we will offer a high calibre soccer experience right here at home and with our closest neighbours.”
“Along with a focus on developing players who love the game, OYSS, HCFC, Gabriola and Mid-Isle will field a joint house league, run monthly mini-tournaments that also include Port Alberni and Courtenay/Comox, and we will continue to field exciting and fun youth-focused soccer programs.”
The new house league runs a fall season for players under age nine and the season continues until March for players up to age 18.
OYSS registration for the fall season remains open and the House League season kicks off Sept. 7.
