The Junior Golds Basketball team had a strong week of league and tournament play, winning three of four games between Tuesday and Saturday.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17 the Junior Golds hosted Seaton Secondary at the Jackson Campus gym.

The Golds recorded 22 steals and seven blocked shots in a great defensive game.

Noah Jansen had a monster game with four steals, three blocks, 11 rebounds and 15 points.

Gavin Limber played a big role on defence with five steals.

The scoring was spread around with Alton Neid putting up 10 points, Daniel Wyss scoring 11 and Evan Smith hitting five three-pointers on his way to 19 points in total.

The final score was 67 – 32 for Salmon Arm.

On Friday, Jan. 20 the Golds travelled to Valleyview Secondary in Kamloops for a tournament.

Salmon Arm opened against Similkameen from Kerameos.

Golds assistant coach Rob Neid said his team fell into the classic trap of taking an unknown team lightly and struggled all game enroute to a 60 – 50 loss. Similkameen is undefeated on the season and currently in first place in the South Zone of the Okanagan. The Golds shot an uncharacteristically low 30 per cent from the field and had 16 turnovers.

Jansen had another strong game along with Alton Neid who both posted double doubles with 11 rebounds and 16 points. On Jan. 21 the Golds faced Seaton again and won 61 – 27. Gavin Limber had an impressive 14 rebounds while Daniel Wyss scored 11 points and Evan Smith had 16 points.

In the third game of the tournament, the Golds played the South Kamloops Grade 9 team and won 55 – 19.

Everyone on the Golds’ roster hit the score sheet in this game. Steven Hardy led the scoring with 13 points while Limber continued to rebound well, finishing with 10.

The Junior Golds are at home this weekend for the Semester “Turnaround Tourney” where they will be joined by the senior team in hosting three quality programs from around the Okanagan: South Okanagan from Oliver, Fulton from Vernon and South Kamloops.
