Kelowna United rep soccer teams had a great weekend last weekend, posting mostly wins against soccer clubs around the Okanagan. Here’s a look back at last weekend’s action from Kelowna United.
U-11 Girls Strikers
The Kelowna United U-11 girls Strikers had a win and a tie last weekend, beating Kamloops 3-1 before playing Shuswap to a 1-1 tie. Lindsay Goett, Jaxon Slaney and Ally Foster scored in the 3-1 win over Kamloops while Goett was the lone player to put one past an excellent Shuswap keeper in the team’s second game.
Shuswap generated a late opportunity on a hard, low shot, but goalie Sophie Gibson was equal to the task, making a beautiful diving save, and preserving the tie.
U-11 Girls Troublemakers
The U-11 Troublemakers were hard to handle as they earned back-to-back 3-1 wins, first over Penticton and later over Vernon. Ashlyn Eisenkrein opened the scoring for KU before Selena Arima added a second goal on a nice through ball from Nisha Jackson. Malia Thompson also scored while solid goalkeeping from Olivia Kalashnikoff and Ashlyn Eisenkrein kept Penticton to only the one goal in the win over Penticton.
Against Vernon 2, an early goal from Brooke Barcelona put Kelowna up early before a solo effort from Eisenkrein made it 2-0 early. Later Eisenkrein added her second goal in the 3-1 win.
U-11 Girls Chaos
The U-11 girls Chaos had a pair of ties, playing Vernon to a 1-1 tie and Kamloops Orange to a 2-2 draw.
Julia Hunter scored late to earn the tie against Vernon while Tayshja Clark scored twice in the first half, then made several key saves to help preserve the tie as keeper in the second half.
U-13 Girls
Missing a few players to injury. the U-13 girls lost 2-0 to Vernon in a competitive game as the team suffered its first loss of the season in league play.
U-15 Girls
The U-15 girls came away with a 3-2 win over Penticton as Claire Evans and Holly deHaas posted first half goals and Madeleine Ertel added a second half marker in the win. With several players still out with injuries Kelowna played strong as unit with several offside traps and good fore-checking by the forwards.
U-11 Boys – Gladiators
The U-11 boys Gladiators continued their good form Sunday in Salmon Arm with a 5-1 win over Kamloops and a 1-1 draw against a tough Vernon team. Aidan Robson was solid in goal and Josh Clancy with three, Emilio Aguiar, Adam Love, and Jad Von Unruh scored the goals.
U-11 Boys – Warriors
The U-11 Warriors had a pair of wins, beating Vernon 2-1 and Kamloops 4-0 on the weekend.
Striker, Brandon Nemes scored both Warriors’ goals in the win over Vernon while a great effort from the defensive squad of William McKellar, Julian Beauchamp and Jayden Bridge kept the tough Vernon forwards at bay. Nathan Gilbert scored twice while Nemes and Eli Dorin scored in the 4-0 win over Kamloops. Keeper Conner Bridge earned the shut-out.
U-12 Boys Crushers
The Crushers had two wins, doubling Vernon 2-1 and beating Penticton 3-1. Jagger Thomas and Lucas Hicklin had the goals against Vernon while Hicklin, Braeden Cangiano and Sam Bishop scored in the 3-1 win over Penticton.
U-12 Boys Rebels
Kelowna’s U-12 boys Rebels squad also had a pair of wins, doubling Kamloops Blue 4-2 and shutting out Kamloops Orange 3-0.
Hunter Blucke scored all four goals for Kelowna including three in the first half in the 4-2 win over Kamloops Blue. In the second game, goalies Coleton Smith and Edvin Holok shared the shut-out while Holok, Coleton Smith and Brandon Frechette had the goals in the 3-0 win over Kamloops Orange.
U-13 Boys
Kelowna’s U-13 boys dominated Vernon en route to a 4-1 win. Jonah Tassone opened the scoring while other goals came from Blake Loudoun, who scored with a header off a corner kick, Kenty Mendoza-Angle and Alex Gross.
U-15 Boys
The U-15 Boys played up a level, taking on the U-16 Revelstoke team in the middle of a rain storm. Morgan Gonzales scored early in the game and while Kelowna United could not add to their score a strong defensive effort was able to stop Revelstoke from scoring in the 1-0 win.
U-15 Boys
The U-15 boys also won under rainy skies in Salmon Arm, edging Shuswap 3-2 in. Corbin Beauchemin staked Kelowna to a 1-0 lead at the half before Spender Young and Gonzales scored in the second half in the win.
