The Aldergrove Kodiaks suffered n 8-5 defeat at the hands of the Port Moody Panthers, Saturday, Oct. 18 at Port Moody Arena.
The Kodiaks outshot the Panthers 47-33 but trailed the Panthers for all three periods.
Kodiak William Mann opened the night’s scoring early in the first period, assisted by Brandon Dolby and Wyatt Versluis, but the Panthers scored twice to put them up 2-1 at the start of the second.
Kodiak Jordan Funk scored, unassisted, halfway through the second but the Panthers scored three of their own, including a short-handed goal from Adam Rota just before the buzzer sounded to close the period.
The Kodiaks scored three in the third, including two power plays and an unassisted goal by captain Aaron Markin, but the Panthers matched the scoring for the 8-5 win. Scoring for the Kodiaks on the power plays were Jordan Funk from Jamieson Ree, and Jamieson Ree from Eric Callegari. While Aldergrove scored on two of seven power pals the Panthers scored thrice on five.
Funk was the game’s third star.
The outcome drops the Kodiaks to third place in the Harold Brittain conference, with 10 points after 12 games (3-5-1-3). Langley Knights lead with 16 points after 11 games, followed by Ridge Meadows Flames with 10 after 11 games. Abbotsford Pilots and Mission Outlaws both sit at nine points apiece.
The Kodiaks host the Grandview Steelers on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena, and travel to the Knights’ home at George Preston Arena the following night, Oct. 23, with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
The Kodiaks host the Delta Ice Hawks on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 7:15 p.m., and then the Richmond Sockeyes on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
