The second race in the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association Trailblazer series returns to local trails on Sunday.

The Sumas Smackdown features 30 kilometres of challenging terrain in a timed cross country format.

The event offers fully taped courses, stocked feed stations, an after party, plus the chance to claim some of the $2,800 in prize money.

Competitors will hit the trails near Sumas Mountain Road in either the 15- or 30-kilometre length. Prize money is set to be offered to the top three overall full course men’s and women’s finishers, the top three men’s and women’s combined descent times and the first male and female who reach the top of the first big climb.

The two-day event also features a course pre-ride, barbecue and demo day on the trails on Saturday. The race kicks off at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

The event is still looking for volunteers for the race, and anyone interesting in lending a hand can contact volunteer@fvmba.com for more information.
