Tip of the week

It is against the rules, to use any device during an end to measure rocks.  After all eight stones are thrown, the stones closest to the centre of button score, no stones are moved until the thirds decide the score. The thirds do any measuring and the team winning the end, marks the score.

The first Summerland curling game in the new South Okanagan Inter-City Curling League was played this Sunday. Penticton boys won 6-5 against Summerland, while the Summerland girls won 6-1 over Penticton, and a make-up team with two coaches were given a good run by Oliver girls 8-4. Games are played every second Sunday in Summerland, Penticton, Oliver or Osoyoos.

The Summerland senior men’s bonspiel was played Nov. 21 to 23.

Thanks to all the teams for making it a success. We had good representation from our neighbouring clubs — seven teams from Kelowna, Penticton, one from Oliver and nine from Summerland. Each team played five games. The team are divided up into three blocks, eight teams per block, with a point system.

The top 3 teams in each block are:

Red block was won by Kelown’as Barry Lemay with points 132, Stan Green of Summerland had 95 points and Paul Cowen of Summerland 93 points. Green block was won by Art Lappalainen from Summerland with 134 points, Larry Kowal from Penticton with 129 points and Chris Cottrill from Penticton with 116 points. Blue Block was won by Eric Johnson from Summerland with 138 points, Warren Parker from Summerland with 117 points and George Hagel from Oliver with 113 points.
