Summerland golfer places in junior competition

Rachelle Nielsen, 15, of Summerland played over the weekend at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour British Columbia Series in Surrey.

Rachelle Nielsen, 15, of Summerland played over the weekend at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour British Columbia Series at Morgan Creek Golf Course in Surrey.

She placed 16th  in the Girls division (par 73, yardage 5326, slope/rating 127/70.7) with scores of 95, 88 and 183.

Also at the tournament, a hole-in-one from Jared du Toit of Kimberley helped him to finish one shot ahead to win the Boys 14-16 division and overall tournament medalist title with scores of 71-72.

Alisha Lau, 12,  of Richmond, BC, shot scores of 74 and 73 to win the Girls division title by five strokes

The British Columbia schedule continues at Swan-e-set Bay Resort in Pitt Meadows with the MJT Lindsay Kenney Classic on May 5 and 6, while the next tour stop in Alberta is the MJT 1st Choice Savings One Day Season Opener at Land-O-Lakes Golf Club in Coaldale on April 14.

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour presented by Boston Pizza is Canada’s national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the Road to College Golf for aspiring young players.

The organization puts on more than 60 events across Canada.

The MJT offers annual awards, scholarships and player incentives.
