Summerland’s Michael Owen captured the Peach City Half Marathon, even while pushing his son in a baby jogger on May 21.
Owen completed the 21-kilometre run in one hour, 24 minutes, 54 seconds. The top female and second overall was Kathryn Waslen of Calgary finishing in 1:26:59. Placing third overall was Victoria’s Marcus Merryfield, who clocked in at 1:27:31. Two Penticton athletes cracked the top 10 were Philipp Stehle placing sixth in 1:33:12 and Ash Davidson ninth after finishing in 1:44:31. The half marathon attracted 109 athletes.
Neil MacDonald, organizer of the Peach City Half Marathon, said the event went really well, including enjoying sunny weather.
“Everyone who did it seemed to have a good time,” said MacDonald.
Banff’s Theo Engman won the 10-kilometre distance in 38:32. Trish Stathers of Kamloops was the top female finisher in a time of 40:49. Taking second overall was Castlegar’s Chris Swift in 39:51, while Kamloops’ Phil Bouffard rounded out the top three in 40:09. Penticton’s Michael Kascak and Scott Harkness cracked the top 10, placing ninth and 10th, respectively. Kascak finished in 43:39, while Harkness came in 10 seconds later at 3:49.
A total of 82 runners competed in the 10K.
