The Summerland Steam Junior B hockey team has advanced to the payoffs every year since the 2012-2013 hockey season.
The Junior B team was formed in 2011 and began playing that fall.
That season, the team finished in last place in the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference: Okanagan Division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
The team’s record in that season was 15 wins, 35 losses and two overtime losses.
In the years following, the team has had stronger performances.
In the 2012-2013 season, Summerland finished fourth in the division with a record of 21 wins, 28 losses, one tie and two overtime losses.
In the best of seven division semifinals, Summerland lost to the Kelowna Chiefs in six games.
In 2013-2014, Summerland finished the regular season in first place, with 33 wins, 15 losses, one tie and three overtime losses.
In playoff action that year, the Steam faced the North Okanagan Knights in the division semifinals, playing to six games.
Summerland’s first experience in the division finals came the following season.
During the 2014-2015 regular season, Summerland finished in second place in the division with 28 wins, 19 losses, two ties and three overtime losses.
The Steam then went on to defeat the Kelowna Chiefs in seven games in the division semifinals.
In the division finals, Summerland lost to the Osoyoos Coyotes in six games.
The Steam advanced to the conference finals the following year.
Summerland earned a second-place finish in the regular season with 34 wins, 15 losses and two overtime losses.
In the division semifinals, the Steam defeated the Kelowna Chiefs in seven games and in the division finals, defeated the Osoyoos Coyotes in six games.
They lost to the 100 Mile House Wranglers in the conference finals in five games.
In the 2016-2017 season. Summerland finished second with 34 wins, nine losses, one tie and three overtime losses, placing second in the division.
After defeating the Kelowna Chiefs in a seven-game series in the division semifinals, the Steam lost to the Osoyoos Coyotes in four games in the division finals.
In the 2017-2018 hockey season, Summerland finished third in the regular season with 27 wins, 16 losses, one tie and three overtime losses.
The Steam lost to the Chiefs in the division semifinals that year.
