Bids to construct a community health centre at Sun Peaks are being accepted by the municipality.

Mayor Al Raine said the floor plans and other criteria for a two-storey, 10,000-square-foot facility have been finished.

The centre will include a doctor’s office and examination rooms, as well as other health services.

Family doctor services will also be provided for residents of Whitecroft and the Upper Louis Creek Valley,

There will also be a triage area for accidents that arise from the various sports people take part in on the mountain and in the community.

The ski patrol will have an area in the basement.

While Sun Peaks council has looked at a modular-type of building, it will consider other construction methods.

Sun Peaks CAO Rob Bremner said there is interest in having the building installed with a geothermal heating source and be environmentally sustainable.

Requests for proposals are being accepted until April 15.

Construction is to be finished by Nov. 1 so the centre can be open to the community by Dec. 1.

The Sun Peaks Health Association has raised almost $800,00 toward construction of the facility.

Another major fundraiser is being planned for the summer to go toward furnishings and equipment.

For more information, call Raine at 250-819-6637 or email to alraine@telus.net.
