Four members of the 2013 Okanagan Sun will get a close look from the B.C. Lions this spring.
The Canadian Football League team has invited defensive lineman Jonas Gering, defensive back Brennan Van Nistelrooy, linebacker Brandon Donkers and safety Jack Rush to the Lions’ spring evaluation camp next month in Vancouver.
The Lions will record each player’s height and weight along with bench press, broad jump and vertical. The same testing procedures will be used that occur at the CFL and NFL combines.
Gering, a Rutland grad, had 31 tackles and two sacks with the Sun in 2013, his second season with the team.
Van Nistelrooy enjoyed an outstanding season, as the Lethbridge native tallied 24 tackles, a sack, two blocked kicks and a pair of interceptions. He was named both the BCFC’s top defensive back and a Canadian Junior Football League all-Canadian.
Like Van Nistelrooy, Rush earned BCFC and all-Canadian status.
Rush, a native Niagara Falls, Ont., who has graduated from the program, had 33 tackles, four interceptions and a touchdown in 2013.
Donkers, another graduating player, had 29 tackles, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and a pair of interceptions.
The Sun players are among 15 invitees from B.C. Football Conference teams, including five from the Langley Rams.
