The Okanagan Sun used a 27-point second quarter on Saturday night to hand the Kamloops
The Sun’s third straight win moves them into first place in the BCFC heading into the Labour Day bye week.
After the Broncos opened the scoring with a field goal, quarterback Cam Bedore scampered into the end zone on a 19 yard scramble halfway through the first quarter. Five minutes later the Broncos conceded a safety to give the visitors a six point advantage.
In the second quarter, the offense exploded. First Thomas Huber connected on a 26-yard field goal. Just over two minutes later Kasey Russell pushed his way into the end zone after Triston Nwagwu recovered a fumble.
The Broncos then scored 10 points aided by Sun penalties to cut the lead to 19-10.
Dillon Fortune then scored on a 29-yard highlight reel run at 3:44 of the second quarter. Just one minute and 14 seconds later Alex Bradley spirited into the end zone to put the Sun up by 20 points.
The Broncos added a field goal just before halftime to make the score 33-16.
Defensively the Sun were solid in the second half not allowing another point.
Offensively Russell scored his second TD of the game from a yard out, before Bedore hit Lerone Robinson on a 35-yard touchdown strike.
In the fourth quarter rookie Josiah Joseph connected with Kamloops native Lliam Wishart on a 46 yard score with just 1:14 to play to give the Sun their fourth win of the season.
The Sun will have this coming weekend off for the Labour Day weekend. They will open the second half of the season on Saturday September 6 at the Apple Bowl when they host the Langley Rams (3-1).
