Okanagan defense shines again as Sun sweep season series from Vancouver Island with BCFC win Saturday

While not as convincing as the first two victories, the Okanagan Sun completed a season sweep of the Vancouver Island Raiders with a 19-7 victory Saturday in Nanaimo in B.C. Football Conference action.

Kasey Russell scored on a one-yard plunge in the first quarter to give the Sun a lead they would not relinquish.

Rookie quarterback Josiah Joseph threw a 31-yard strike to Lerone Robinson in the fourth quarter for the Sun’s other major.

A safety, and a field goal by Thomas Huber rounded out the scoring, as the Sun recorded its fifth straight win to move to 6-1 on the season.

On defense, Zak Ironstand led the charge with three sacks and a fumble recovery, while Justin Gabriel had one sack and one fumble recovery.

Safety Dexter Janke grabbed his third interception of the season, as the Sun won all three regular season games against the rivals Raiders.

The Sun returns to action Saturday night when they host the Westshore Rebels. Kick off at the Apple Bowl is 7 p.m.
