SURREY — If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball – or so Patches O’Houlihan once proclaimed in a certain 2004 comedy movie.

And if you’re in Surrey next week, you can play dodgeball in a free tourney hosted by Surrey Dodgeball League.

The first of two “Revenge of the Noobs” tournaments will take place on Monday, Jan. 9 at Hillcrest Elementary in Surrey, followed by another evening event on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Forsyth Road Elementary.

“We would like to invite all members of the Surrey Dodgeball League, their family, their friends, their arch nemeses, and even complete strangers to come and participate in a free dodgeball tournament,” the group says in a Facebook event post. “No previous playing experience is necessary as it’s all about fun and having a good time.”

“Bring a team of 6 or just yourself. Players can sign up by contacting Kevin Vo at kvo@surreydodgeball.ca.”

The league was founded in the summer of 2013 by Kevin Vo.

“We are currently on our fifth season of dodgeball and have expanded to 64 teams across two nights, four tiers and three gyms,” reads an “About Us” post at Surreydodgeball.ca.

“SDL is made up of a group of devoted and hardworking individuals who appreciate the sport of dodgeball. Our goal is to continue to build a solid and dynamic dodgeball community in Surrey.”
