The ice at South Surrey Arena will be littered with stuffed toys this weekend, as the Surrey Eagles hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss fundraiser.

On Saturday at 7 p.m., the Eagles will host the Coquitlam Express, and fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed toy – or buy one at the rink – to toss onto the ice after the Eagles score their first goal of the game.

The bears will then be collected and, according to a news release from the team, donated to the Surrey Christmas Bureau and Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary, and then distributed to children at Christmas.

At last year’s Teddy Bear Toss game, the Eagles scored eight goals against the Powell River Kings, and fans didn’t have to wait long to toss their stuffed toys – John Wesley scored 27 seconds into the game.

Bears will be for sale at South Surrey Arena on game day, with prices starting at $5.
