Surveyors defuse Dynamite

Monashee Surveying brushed back Davidson & Co. Dynamite 2-1 in North Okanagan Men’s Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field.

Monashee Surveying brushed back Davidson & Co. Dynamite 2-1 in North Okanagan Men’s Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field.

The second-place Dynamite (7-5-2) had a few players hurt in a Kamloops tournament last weekend so played with just 10 men. They grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead on a penalty kick by Geoff Cox, awarded when Monashee keeper Ouen Ouch was whistled for a foul on a tackle.

The Surveyors (5-7-2) failed to equalize in the opening half when Devon Marriott sailed a penalty shot over stalwart keeper Bryndon Buckham, and the net, after a hand-ball ruling.

Darren Nobrega’s goal on a scramble in front tied things up and Marriott, on a similar play, netted the winner in the second half.

Monashee veteran Mike Arding cited Kevin Knauf for outstanding play at central defender, while also praising outside defender Ryan Sharp for a solid showing.

In other action, Turn-Key Controls of Vernon bowed 3-0 to the Eagle Homes Nation of Domination in Salmon Arm.

Eagle Homes bounced out to an early 1-0 lead off a set piece that was curled around the wall, giving keeper Greg Douma no chance.

Back and forth play continued in the first half with Eagle Homes capitalizing on the few chances they had for a 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw a reinvigorated Turn-Key squad apply pressure from all fronts. Cam Egan had several chances but couldn’t solve the Eagle Homes’ keeper.

Turn-Key received stellar play from midfielders Dan Metcalf and Rob McGloin in pushing the offence forward.

Eagle Homes improved to 8-5 and sole possession of second place, while Turn-Key dipped to 4-7-3.

The Revelstoke Stallions tripped up the first-place North Enderby Timber 3-1 at Marshall #5.

Devon Janke scored on a penalty kick, given after a foul, for the Timber (11-3-1). Revelstoke improved to 6-4-3.
