The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds and the Vancouver North East Chiefs couldn’t separate themselves last weekend.
The teams met for a home-and-home series on Saturday and Sunday and both games ended in ties.
Fraser Valley travelled to Coquitlam on Saturday to play the Chiefs and allowed a 4-1 lead in the second period to disappear. The Chiefs fought back in the second and third periods to finish the game in a 5-5 tie.
Abbotsford’s Zac McKee opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds, and local product Jake Mulder scored the team’s second goal.
Abbotsford’s Kyle Davis drew an assist on Mulder’s goal and local Andrew Sorensen scored the Thunderbirds’ fourth goal.
The teams met again on Sunday in Abbotsford for the Thunderbirds home opener and played to a 3-3 tie.
Fraser Valley again had a 3-2 lead heading into the third period but the Chiefs tied the game up. McKee and Mulder drew assists on Fraser Valley’s third goal.
The Thunderbirds sit in eighth place in the 11-team British Columbia Major Midget League and now have a record of one win, two losses and three ties.
Fraser Valley hosts the Vancouver North West Giants on Saturday at 4 p.m. and then hit the road on Sunday to play the Giants in North Vancouver.
