T-men face rival Shamrocks

NANAIMO – The Coastal Windows Timbermen senior A lacrosse team hosts the Shamrocks on Saturday (June 29) at Frank Crane Arena.

The Nanaimo Timbermen played the Victoria Shamrocks tough the first time the teams played, and the T-men have only gotten better since then.

The Coastal Windows Timbermen senior A lacrosse team hosts the Shamrocks on Saturday (June 29) at Frank Crane Arena.

It’s the second meeting of the year for the rival squads. The Shamrocks got a last-minute goal from Scott Ranger to win 9-8 in a matchup three weeks ago at Frank Crane.

“The first game went well for us – we played a complete game and we lost in the last minute of the game,” said Graham Palmer, T-men captain. “We’re going to put in another effort like that and we should be OK.”

The Timbermen, winners of two in a row, will be trying to do the same things that have led to success of late. Palmer said possession is key, so the team will seek to win the battle on loose balls and faceoffs.

“We need to stick to our defensive system and transition the ball up the floor without any turnovers,” Palmer said.

Ranger said after the earlier matchup this season that the close game would add to the Island rivalry.

“Victoria and Nanaimo don’t get along,” he said. “It’s going to be a good series for the season and we’ll see what happens next game.”

GAME ON … Saturday’s opening faceoff is at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. Tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students and $5 for children.
