The Nanaimo Timbermen think it will take their best effort of the season to get a win. But they intend to meet the challenge.
The senior A Western Lacrosse Association team (0-2-1) seeks its first win of 2011 on Sunday (June 5) when the Maple Ridge Burrards (2-1-0) visit Frank Crane Arena.
“They’re easily the hardest-working team in the league,” said Simon Stocks, alternate captain on the Coastal Windows Timbermen. “So if we don’t show up like the first period of [last] game, it’s just going to be the same thing.”
The Burrards boast the league’s best goals-against average, while the Timbermen are worst in that category.
“They’ve got a very good team. They’re going to want to come over here and grab two points, just like anyone else,” said Art Webster, coach of the Timbermen. “We’ve got to step it up, we’ve got to answer Sunday. We can’t go down another home game.”
GAME ON … The Timbermen and Burrards face off Sunday at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane … Tickets cost $10 or $5 for youth six and up. Kids five and under get in free … Nanaimo’s Scott Ranger leads the WLA in both goals (12) and points (22).
