The Charles Bloom Timberwolves have pulled off a double-double.
The T-Wolves have been awarded the 2014 and 2015 B.C. senior A girls basketball championships, with this year’s 16-team event scheduled for March 5-8, in Lumby.
“The support for the bid was phenomenal – there are 24 committees formed and over 30 volunteers from the school, community and School District 22 who have taken on leadership roles within the provincials organization team,” said Nathan Lee, Bloom’s athletic director and tournament director. “The support from Kalamalka Secondary and athletic director Reni Dolcetti has also been great.
“Securing this bid has been a four-year dream. The strength of our bid, and our tournament, is our organization team. We have great people involved and as such this will be a great player centred event for all sixteen teams involved.”
The Bloom tourney will be the only provincial held outside of the Fraser Valley (A, AA, AAA and AAAA boys and AA and AAA girls are all being held at the Langley Events Centre), and the only one with a high school acting as the primary venue for the event. Kalamalka Secondary will act as the second gym/venue.
“It will allow us to showcase our great school and an athletics program that we are very proud of, and it will bring great economic benefit to both Lumby and Vernon,” said Lee. “Plus, obviously, this is a great opportunity for our girl basketball players who will qualify for the provincials, hosted in their own backyard, for the next two years.”
