The Williams Lake Peewee Timberwolves dropped a heartbreaker in a barnburner Sunday at their year-end home tournament.

The T-wolves found themselves behind 5-0 in the first period to the Prince George Peewee Cougars, however, nearly pulled off a remarkable comeback.

Late in the third period Williams Lake had clawed their way back to a 6-5 deficit, almost notching the equalizer on a breakaway, but weren’t quite able to pull off the come-from-behind victory in a 7-5 defeat.

Williams Lake’s Max Sanford lit the lamp four times for his club, while Cortland Forster added a single tally in the contest.

Earlier in the weekend Williams Lake opened its tournament with a 3-2 loss to Terrace, before rallying to win two straight — an 8-3 triumph over Prince Rupert and a 9-7 victory over Salmon Arm to finish second in the round robin prior to the championship.

The tournament caps off the season for the peewee T-wolves as they were downed in the Cariboo Amateur Hockey Association playoffs two weekends ago by the Cougars.
