Even under blazing hot conditions, the European Football School, led by the always smiling Saibo Talic, was able to draw huge numbers to his five-day camp.
In total 92 eager soccer players between the ages of eight and 18 laced up their boots to learn from the knowledgeable coaching staff of EFS.
“We have had another incredible tun out for the EFS camp and I think a lot of that is credit to the great work Saibo does,” said Kevin Harrison Shuswap Youth Soccer Executive Director. For six years, Talic and his team of highly qualified coaches have been making the trip to Salmon Arm from the Lower Mainland.
Talic said the first camp they hosted in town had 38 kids sign up.
“At this camp here, we have 92 kids and even some from northern B.C. and five from Alberta. It’s great to see the camp thrive here,” said Talic.
He is adamant the level of talent continues to get better each year he returns.
“In large part it is because of the many development programs these kids have available to them,” said Talic. At EFS they work on all facets of the game to help the kids become well-rounded players.
Talic says it is important to work with each kid at the camp on an individual level.
“I try to learn all of the kids’ names, and I make notes on areas they can improve and then that’s what we work on together,” Talic said.
Talic remains on the lookout for top talent and loves to help foster the skill he sees.
“The camp has been a huge success, it has been a lot of fun and there has been some great skill on display,” said Talic.
He said he will hopefully select two players from the area to accompany the EFS select team to Europe in the spring.
