Ex-Vernon Viper Adam Tambellini was named Top Forward at the RBC Cup national junior A hockey tournament banquet Friday night in Summerside, PEI.
Tambellini, an 18-year-old centre who helped the Surrey Eagles win the BCHL Fred Page Cup, earned a share of third in RBC round-robin scoring with two goals and four assists in four games.
The Edmonton product is rated No. 42 by Central Scouting heading into the NHL entry draft, June 30, in New Jersey.
Surrey, who finished the round-robin in second place at 3-1, faced the host Western Capitals (2-2) in RBC semifinal action Saturday.
The Alberta champion Brooks Bandits, who beat Surrey to in the head-to-head to place first, took on the No. 4 Minnesota Wilderness (1-3) in the other semi.
Other RBC award recipients include: the Bandits’ Cam Maclise – tournament MVP (Roland Mercier Trophy); Summerside’s Kevin Bailie – Top Goaltender; Surrey’s Devon Toews – Top Defenceman; Minnesota’s Mike Dietrich – Most Sportsmanlike Player (Tubby Schmalz Trophy); and the Bandits’ Anthony Paskaruk – Top Scorer.
