BCHL teams are thinking about their playoff potential and want to make sure they’re race-ready.

The B.C. Hockey League’s trade deadline is today (Jan. 10) at 8 p.m.

There are likely to be some transactions involving Island Division clubs as all five have designs on reaching the post-season and winning once they get there.

Players know the deadline has been approaching, but Matt Creamer, Nanaimo Clippers forward, said it’s not a major focus compared to preparing for games and trying to win.

“You just kind of play your game and do your best,” he said. “When it’s out of your hands, you don’t really think about it that much.”

Sean Buchanan, Clippers defenceman, said players have the deadline in the back of their minds.

“It is what it is. If you get traded, you get traded; if you don’t, you don’t,” he said. “You want to stay here but you don’t have any control over it.”

GAME ON … The Clippers visit the Victoria Grizzlies on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Q Centre, then host the Powell River Kings on Friday at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
