TED United ends Dr. Lee/Squires Four streak

Through nine games in the North Okanagan Women’s Master’s Soccer League, Vernon’s Dr. Lee/Squires Four Pub had been perfect

Through nine games in the North Okanagan Women’s Master’s Soccer League, Vernon’s Dr. Lee/Squires Four Pub had been perfect.

Nine games played, nine games won. No goals allowed. None. Zilch.

Salmon Arm’s TED United changed that Tuesday.

The second-place Shuswap squad scored the first goals against Dr. Lee/Squires Four this season, and didn’t allow any against, as TED United posted a 2-0 win at MacDonald Park East.

The evenly matched game was scoreless at the half with TED United breaking through early in the second half, squeaking a shot past Squires keeper Lisa Arrota.

United sealed the win with an insurance goal late in the second half.

Barb Levesque was named Player of the Match for the dental/pub crew for her great hustle.

On MacDonald Park’s west pitch, another Vernon-Salmon Arm matchup saw Roster’s down the Shuswap Merlot 3-1.

Renee Cooke scored the first Roster’s goal off of a pass from Karina McGaw.

Katie Reid scored two beautiful goals from the top of the 18. Aggie Golosinski was player of the match and McGaw was sportsman. The Roster’s defence showed great hustle as usual.

Harmony Crockett almost scored a goal for each of her kids.

Crockett, who gave birth to her fourth child in May, scored three times and was easily named player of the match to help VQA down the Courtesy Motors Sistas 6-2 at Marshall Field.

Ginger Nickoli, Cheryl Roddis and Jenn Hatten had the other goals for for VQA, who received great goal keeping from Bobbie Jo Gordon, and great passing and chatter from the entire team.

VQA’s win was a lovely parting gift for Rita Tedesco, playing her last game in Vernon pending a move to Revelstoke.

The Sistas came out blazing and scored both of their goals in the first half from Andy Zubot on set-ups from Diane Neudorf and Wendy Bueckert.

The Sistas most sportmanlike player was Kyla Boyko, who went hard all game with awesome playing and a great attitude and determination.

Shuswap Kaos had one chance on net but they made it count in a 1-0 win over Gray Monk/Longhorn Impact.

Newcomer Staci Cooper played hard in the Impact midfield, hustling back to help defend. Lori Phillip again played half a game in net, and then worked her magic footwork, shielding the ball and penetrating their defence. Christine Fraser was again a defensive workhorse for the Impact while Fahn Bacon had the most chances up front.

In Division 1 play, Infonews.ca Newshounds stayed perfect, improving to 8-0 with a 4-1 win over the Blazers at Marshall Field.

Megan Prentice scored twice for the ‘Hounds, in the 12th minute and with five minutes left in the game.

Jasmine Whitling and Kira Lee had the other markers as Infonews.ca built up a 2-0 halftime lead. Keeper Eileen Fox lost her shutout bid just before the final whistle.

The Centowear Girls scored a 3-0 decision over NET Celtics at Marshall.

Vicki Schley scored twice, both on breakaways. One came off a sweet feed from Megan Squair.
