Not bad for your first time.Nick Ziolkowski, 14, competed in the B.C. Powerlifting Association’s Winter Open Feb. 13 in Vancouver and registered personal bests in all categories he entered.Ziolkowski competed in the Sub Junior 14-18 years, 86 kg category in just his first competition. Ziolkowski competed in the squat, bench press and deadlift, lifting 275, 165 and 325 pounds respectively earning a second place in his category.“It really was exceptional,” said his uncle Zan Ziolkowski. “He didn’t miss an attempt.”Ziolkowski is coached by his father Dan at Flex Fitness in Campbell River. Competition in powerlifting begins at 14 years of age and the Feb. 13 event is a fully-sanctioned meet.
