The Terrace Aquatic Centre is getting ready for its annual shutdown from Aug. 29 to Sept. 26.
The four-week closure will be used to do some necessary cleaning and upgrading, said aquatic manager, Mike Carlyle.
“If we stay on top of these things, then we will have a smoother year,” he explained.
Carlyle said noticeable changes from the closure will be the completion of the east wing of the balcony, which overlooks the pools as a viewing area.
Currently half of the balcony has bench-style seating and the other half is unfinished.
Carlyle said they hope to change that, also adding tables and chairs so that parents watching their children or anyone using the space will be more comfortable.
He says during this time of year all of the plumbing is checked over and overhead lights are changed.
The pools will be emptied and grouting will be redone in some of the basins as well as on the decks around the pools.
There may be some changes to the weight room as well, but Carlyle said they are still working on those plans.
“It’s going to be a busy, busy time,” he said.
