Terrace speedway is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend, sharing an anniversary cake and hosting a media race.
Members of the media will get a chance to jump into a bomber car with one of the drivers and speed a few laps around the track Saturday, June 24, with races starting at 7 p.m.
The last races in Terrace were fast and furious, and Phil Hustad circled the track in an impressive 18.99 seconds to claim the legend car fast time.
Terry Reinert clocked the street stock fast time in 19.20 seconds and Jeremy Floer got the bomber fast time in 20.29 seconds.
Paul Fleming describes a few highlights from the June 10-11 races:
- A great battle was unfolding in the B Bomber main event on Saturday between 15 year old racer #4 Colin Reinert and rookie driver #240 Brian Hutchison from Smithers. But as they raced their final lap, they tangled and spun down the back straight, collecting 16 year old racer #5 Aiden Archer who spun into the tire barriers and nearly flipped his car. The carnage opened the way for rookie driver #663 William Gowe to race through and claim his first win.
- The crowd saw the underside of a Canadian Tire Legend car on Saturday when#51 Kris Sweet flipped over the back end of #41 Howe O’Brien and flew into the air. Sweet landed the car and both cars sped through the remainer of the race.
- Kids rides were a big hit bth Saturday and Sunday, and dozens of kids got their faces painted at the events.
- Three cars sped across the finish line together for a three-way tie in the A Bomber trophy dash on Sunday.
- B Bomber racing had Trevor Reinert who managed to find a seat in his dad’s #53 Mustang, pilot it to two wins in the B Bomber class.
- #44 Lance Albert pulled off his first win of the season in his newly built S10 Pickup truck in the heat race of the B Bomber class.
- #77 Colin Reinert claimed his first win in the street stock races, after taking home the 16 and under championship in the Bomber class for two straight years.
The anniversary celebration and next races are this Saturday, June 24, starting with time trails at 6 p.m. and races at 7 p.m.
