Glacier Greens Men enjoy annual fall wind-up event

The threat of rain on Oct. 5 did not keep 85 Glacier Greens Saturday Men’s players from participating in our annual fall wrap, better known as the Devils Scramble.

The format for the tournament is six holes best ball, six holes scramble and six holes of the dreaded dice game. On Friday afternoon a tee location was drawn from one bucket and the five-man teams were then drawn from five different handicap buckets. Each team had one low handicap player, three middle of the line and one high handicapper.

Following play each player was treated to a fine barbecue steak lunch prepared by our own Ben Gill catering and a visit to a well-stocked prize table.

Team KPs were available on all five par threes thanks to Bill Kelly (Bill Kelly Golf), Scott Fraser (Royal LePage Realty), Gary Wood (Slegg Lumber), Gary Weibe (Boston Pizza) and Bruce Coulter (Coulter’s Automotive). Special thanks to club member Lee Johnson who once again donated a painting he had painted and framed to the Memorial Bridge fundraising table.

This year’s winning team was Dave Wacowich, Mike Pollock, Pat Renaud, Jim Clark and Henry Bonde with a score of -13. Next at -12 was Bill Kelly, Brian Hotsenpiller, Glen Watters, Dave Brooker and Gary Wood. At -11 was Stan Mills, Bruce Henderson, Keith Allan, Murray Polson and Rod Verchere. Four teams were tied for fourth at -10. From all reports it sounds like a good time was had by all, a tourney spokesperson said.

“My committee and I would like to thank all the Saturday Men’s players for their continued support and a special thank you to our head professional Bill Kelly and his staff for their support and assistance every Saturday morning,” said Saturday Men’s co-ordinator Len Doyle.

“Safe travel and good health to our Saturday morning players who head south for the winter and for those that stay behind, weather permitting, we will continue our Saturday morning competition.”
