Three Cowichan men’s soccer teams improve to 2-0

Three of Cowichan’s senior men’s soccer teams improved to 2-0 on the season with wins last weekend.

Three of Cowichan’s senior men’s soccer teams improved to 2-0 on the season with wins last weekend, while the fourth continued to search for its first win of the young campaign.

In Div. 2 of the Vancouver Island Soccer League, Cowichan United crushed Nanaimo United 6-0 at Merle Logan Turf. Gabe Joe, Dan Citra, Kevin Smith, Jose Muro, Stevan Zorich and game MVP Ryan Sampson all scored, while Darian Achurch earned the clean sheet. The team has a bye this weekend and can rest after that blowout win.

In the Masters A division, the Cowichan 49ers beat Gorge FC Backfit 3-0 on goals by Chadwick Bastion, Darcy Penner and Sebastien Tirone, while Rob McIntyre was perfect in goal. George Thomas was named game MVP. The 49ers will visit the CB Red Barn Bobcats Friday.

In Masters C, game MVP Ali Tabrizi scored twice and Sid Branch had the other goal as the Cowichan Steelheads got by the CB Bobcats Alumni 3-2. The Steelheads will also be on the road this weekend, visiting Bays United.

The lone Cowichan team without a win in VISL play so far this year is Cowichan Red Arrow in Div. 3A, who dropped a 4-0 decision to Gorge Us-Guys last weekend. Jordan Crocket was named Cowichan’s game MVP. The team will be at home against the Alberni Athletics this Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at Sherman Road.
