Julie Preston set out to enjoy the experience of the B.C. Summer Games and came home with three gold medals.
Preston, a 14-year-old who lives in Parksville, took part in three synchronized swimming events.
Participating in the solo, figures and team events, Preston had a chance to make a splash in the pool over the weekend and that’s exactly what she did.
Figures were the first event for Preston and she got off to a great start. Rated on a number of elements out of 10, by a panel of judges, Preston recorded the highest marks, earning a first place finish and added her points to the team score as well.
In her second event, the team competition, Preston was again part of the first place team, earning her second gold.
In her third and final event, the solo competition, Preston went on to capture her third gold, capping an amazing weekend, competition wise, for her.
“I wasn’t expecting to finish the way that I did at all,” Preston said after her impressive weekend at the B.C. Summer Games.
“It’s pretty amazing, thinking about it all now. It was a really great experience and I had a lot of fun there, being with my team and competing alongside them. It was a great weekend and I enjoyed every minute being there.”
The B.C. Summer Games were hosted in and around Nanaimo from July 17-20.
